It’s summer. Elul. Rosh Hashanah. Even the end of 2020, is approaching fast. Donors – even if they aren’t away – are less receptive.

What should you do to keep donor relationships alive and ‘invested in’ before your next donor solicitation?Doing something – even small – is massive. With your big donors, connect with them through personalized ‘touch points.’ Below are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

If your donor is away, find a way to give from afar.

Get something special delivered to their hotel or apartment – with a warm note and brocha. Even a short, but personal, erev Shabbos text can be impactful.Give them information, a connection or an insight (restaurant, place to visit, experience, tour guide) that could enhance their stay.Send a book that would interest them.

When you’re away, what can you do?

Do something to show you’re thinking of them. Keep it personal. It’s not about your organization. It’s about them. Think out of the box.Buy a gift that shows you know what they like. And that you thought of them.Send a postcard (remember those?!) to your top donors and send it snail mail. Make it personal and warm. “Thinking of you from xxxxxxxxxx. Wishing you a great summer.”WhatsApp a short video dvar Torah sharing something meaningful.

Plan now – for each of your top donors – what you’ll do.

Consider… What do they like? What can you do based on where you are? What’s easy for you to do?How can you help them?Have a great summer with successful donor interactions. Remember, fundraising is all about relationships. The more you nurture your relationships, the stronger your relationships will be!The benefit of this effort will come back to you sooner than you think.
