Over 940,000 North American Jews have participated in Shabbat Across America and Canada over the past 17 years. As a rabbi and educator, we hope you would participate in SAA. We would appreciate if you can alert people to it via an email, snail mail, or whatever methods of communication you use with your constituents.
While the main Shabbat Across America and Canada program has always been the Shabbat service followed by a festive Shabbat dinner at the location, this year we are proud to launch Shabbat Across America and Canada at Home where individuals can participate in the comfort of their own homes. This way EVERY Jew can truly participate in Shabbat Across America in one way or another.
We hope that you can encourage your students and congregants to participate in Shabbat Across America and Canada at Home. In order to participate, hosts merely sign up on our website.
They can recreate the Shabbat Across America and Canada magic in the comfort of their own home, with hand-picked guests, especially ones who may not celebrate Shabbat as often as the host does. Shabbat Across America and Canada at Home really does not entail any work or effort whatsoever. An announcement or endorsement from a rabbi, or key lay leader can truly make an enormous difference and encourage North American Jewry to seek to engage all of its members on at least one Shabbat a year.
Rabbi Elly Krimsky is the program director at NJOP. He encourages everyone he meets to remember that Shabbat Across America and Canada is March 7, 2014. He is happy to speak to anyone anywhere about this initiative. You can reach him via Twitter at: @rebelkrim.
