Your donors give to other great people, projects and organizations. And all of you are ‘competing’ for their attention and funds.
If you were your donor, how would you decide who to give a larger piece of the pie?
There are so many factors that are out of our control. So let’s put those aside.
Imagine while reading this, that you are one of your top donors.
– Do you know what interactions make a difference to him?
– Have you asked?
What gets him talking to his friends about you and what you’re doing?
Do you share stories in a way that touches his heart, or makes him feel like a hero, or makes him proud that he supports what you do?
Does he get to see ‘first hand’ the difference you’re making? And do you make sure to share great pictures and quality footage with him?
Does he feel accomplished through your successes?
Does he feel you genuinely appreciate him? Are you giving him personal satisfaction from his giving?
Do you ask for advice that you genuinely need and would implement?
Does he feel that the problem you are addressing is achievable and his support is making a dent in making that happen?
Do you know what’s holding him back from giving you more? Did you ask?
– What three things can you easily do to shift your position among those he supports?
– What will you invest effort in Year 2019 to gain more of his funds?
As we are now in 2019, as communication with our supporters is becoming less simple in some ways, at the same time, there are greater opportunities to give our donors what they want.
When we do this right, we stand out as exceptional. And the support we’ll receive will be different as a result.
