There are almost always opportunities for getting Corporate Sponsorship, when you run a fundraising event, a dinner or even an online matching campaign.

As with all our efforts, there’s a learning curve to get it right for your organization.

Here are some tried and tested ways to make sure you benefit from funds you could be raising.

YOUR TARGET SPONSORS
Who are your potential corporate sponsors? Consider who in your wider community has a business that has visible PR/Marketing.

You’re looking for people who would benefit from exposure to your base of supporters.

Another way to think about it: Which target sponsors support similar causes to yours?
Do your research and make a list of potential partners.

BUILD RELATIONSHIPS
High dollar sponsorships don’t happen overnight.

Start early. Look to connect and nurture relationships now, which will bear fruit in 6-12 months.

Who could you reach out to now for an event that is happening in six months?

DETERMINE BUDGET
Your fundraising target should be set by trying to cover the cost of hosting your event. (This could be split into a number of sponsors also.)

Make the ask worth your while. Make sure you ask BIG enough that it adds value to your efforts.

IT’S NOT A DONATION
A sponsorship is NOT a donation.

Rather, it’s a marketing opportunity,

Corporate sponsors are motivated by the PR value that the sponsorship brings.

Will this sponsorship increase their bottom line in the market segment (i.e., your donor base) they want to grow?

The focus of your conversation has to be around the benefits and value that sponsorship will bring them.

DON’T UNDERSELL YOUR SUPPORT BASE
The value you bring to the corporate sponsor is your entire base of people who support your organization.

They become the target market for a sponsor. DON’T narrow yourself to your event attendees!

GIFTS IN KIND
What else could you look to get sponsored?

In addition to event sponsorship, are there businesses that could give you ‘gifts in kind’ in return for giving their company name recognition in different ways?

SHARE YOUR SUCCESS
