Prayer provides every person with the profound ability to communicate with God. It is our opportunity to talk to God, to express our joys and frustrations and put forward our wishes. Moreover, prayer is a powerful means for personal introspection as well as contemplation of the world. This class will explore the profound nature of prayer and the effect it can have on our lives. We will explore the Jewish definition of prayer and seek to understand why every prayer is valuable, whether “answered” or not. We will also investigate Jewish prayer specifically, why it is standardized and why we pray in Hebrew.
